Mr. Desmarás has over 20 years of experience in the securities industry. His securities industry experience includes not only public finance investment banking but also institutional sales and trading sides of the business.
He traded municipal bonds and mortgage backed securities at Drexel Burnham Lambert. He has extensive experience in institutional sales at Merrill Lynch, and Popular Securities where for over a decade, he made markets in municipals, IRBs, and MBSs, among other securities, at these institutions. He began his investment banking experience at Popular Securities and worked to raise over $2.6 billion for a variety of issuers and security types from 1997 to 1998. He rejoined Popular Securities in 2004 to open its first US mainland office and was a key member of a team that covered east coast and mid-west accounts that captured $258 Million in senior, $ 1.8 billion in co-senior, and $ 22 billion in co-managed transactions.
Mr. Desmarás also has recent and broad experience in the power industry where he valued projects, contracts and derivatives, managed a portfolio of power plants, restructured project financings and led teams that prepared bids and performed due diligence on power plant acquisitions.
He has a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a recent MBA from Columbia University where he concentrated on derivatives and corporate finance.
